Static Dread: The Submarine Launch Notes for the Ares
Retail facts for 14 August 2026, including the demo-save warning.
Static Dread: The Submarine launched on 14 August 2026. This page is the store-and-schedule companion to the Updates Hub. It is not a walkthrough. For play, start at Getting Started. For a verdict, read the review.
Where to buy
- Steam — app 4042160, Windows, achievements, Cloud, controller, Family Sharing. Launch week included an introductory discount (store showed $11.99 crossing out to a lower price with a window through late August).
- GOG — DRM-free Windows installer, same spec table, optional Galaxy.
- Official site — solarsuit.games for developer contact ([email protected]).
Deluxe extras on Steam included a supporter pack, soundtrack, and digital art collection, plus anthology bundles with The Lighthouse. Detail lives on DLC and extras. None of those bundles import Lighthouse radio codes into this boat.
Demo and playtest — read this
An open playtest and a later demo existed in 2026. When the demo closed, the developers stated:
- Saved files will not carry into the full game.
- The demo was outdated and differed significantly from the final build.
If your muscle memory is a playtest Timmy scene or a three-shift slice, trust retail and this wiki’s story walkthrough over your old folder. Do not ticket Steam support expecting a transfer.
What launched in the box
- Single-player only. No second player, no online crew.
- First-person exploration, roster assignment, sonar classification, branching flags.
- 45 Steam achievements — list on achievements.
- Full controller support.
- Languages: English and Korean with full audio; French, German, Japanese, Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish for interface/subtitles (Steam table).
Day-one player issues that are not patches
- Cannot find the gun: Controls.
- Bridge sealed: log the stairwell. Getting Started.
- Sonar will not lock: that is the design. Sonar guide.
- Empty jobs: crew management.
- Spec anxiety: system requirements.
Subtitle-versus-voice mismatches were reported in reviews. That is a QA note, not a reason to wait a year. Story pacing complaints are editorial; they will not be “fixed” into The Lighthouse 2.
After you buy
Staff the Ares. Sit the first watch. Resolve Timmy on purpose. If you want more credits, use endings. If you want toys, collectibles. If Steam publishes a hotfix, it is summarized on patch notes rather than buried in this launch snapshot. The 14 August small hotfix and the 15 August story-sequence hotfix are already there.
What this launch is not
It is not an Early Access drip. The 14 August 2026 storefront is the retail product: 45 trophies, Cloud, controller, and a 3–4 hour first watch. It is not a live-service with weekly redeem codes. It is not a Roblox experience and it does not import The Lighthouse radio puzzle into this hull. If a news post still talks as if the Ares is a playtest, ignore the date on that post and trust Steam’s released flag.
Day-one patches may still land. Until they do, treat player complaints about the gun bind, sealed stairwell, and sonar homework as routing, not as missing content. The Controls and sonar pages exist so you do not refund a working game because a hatch would not open.
If you already own The Lighthouse anthology bundle, you still start this boat from zero. Soundtrack and art extras do not change Timmy. They do not change the reactor clock. Play the watch you paid for, then decide whether a second file is worth another evening.
You do not need a pre-order. You do not need a code. You need a Windows machine that clears a 1050-class GPU and a couple of evenings. The North Atlantic is already in your library if you clicked purchase. Go below.
